The EU and Taiwan Hold Industrial Policy Dialogue on Enhancing Supply Chain Resilience
On November 29, Minister of Economic Affairs Mei-Hua Wang and the European Commission's Director-General of DG GROW Kerstin Jorna co-chaired the 8th EU-Taiwan Industrial Policy Dialogue.

This meeting focused on supply chain resilience strategies and opportunities for cooperation in key sectors or vulnerable areas of supply chains. A wide range of topics were discussed such as electric vehicles, circular economy, offshore wind power, investment and skills cooperation, as well as cooperation on SMEs and clusters. The Working Group on the Robotics sector also presented its updated report. Both sides planned to co-organize workshops and industrial networking events for next year.

Regarding electric vehicles, both sides discussed respective regulatory frameworks and future trends, including the phasing out of internal combustion engines, emission standards, and autonomous vehicle regulations.

As for the green transition, both sides expect to follow up on developments concerning Digital Product Passport policies related to circular economy, and will continue to enhance collaboration on offshore wind power through bilateral platforms.

Finally, in order to strengthen supply chain resilience, both sides expressed hope to collaborate on talent cultivation, exchanges, and technical upgrading, particularly in the field of semiconductors.

The Industrial Policy Dialogue is the highest-level platform between the EU and Taiwan on exchanging industrial policies and promoting industrial cooperation. Despite the pandemic, this annual dialogue has not been interrupted as both sides continue to work closely on post-pandemic industrial policies and supply chain cooperation. This indicates that the EU and Taiwan are important partners in pursuing cooperation on international supply chains.
