Science and Technology Competitiveness Rankings

For a country to enjoy sustainable economic growth and stay competitive internationally, the key lies in the government's investment in R&D to drive technology breakthroughs and innovations as well as in effective resource integration. For many years, DoIT has promoted TDPs to increase Taiwan's R&D capacity and the results have been fruitful. The technological development of our industries is recognized worldwide. Taiwan has performed brilliantly in recent technology-related rankings and indexes developed by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) and the World Economic Forum (WEF), proving our claim to be a global leader in technological R&D and innovation.

According to the WEF 2019, Taiwan ranks 12th out of 141 economies, and 4th on “Innovation Capability". In the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking 2023, Taiwan ranked 6th overall among 64 economies. Furthermore, Taiwan continues to remain highly competitive in both Science and Technology Infrastructure sub-indices. These results are a demonstration of our efforts at encouraging R&D. In order to succeed in a fast changing global economy, DoIT will continue to be a pioneer that drives innovation and channels technology resources into economic value for strengthening Taiwan's competitiveness.
