The Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, in cooperation with the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (TEEMA), held an online symposium on August 24 to help Taiwanese companies comply with international carbon reduction trends and promote sustainability in domestic industries.

Representatives from the Industrial Technology Research Institute, the Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research, and KPMG in Taiwan shared the latest news on carbon emissions, and resources that can be provided by the government. The event attracted more than 520 participants.

In order to reach the net zero goal in carbon emissions by 2050, Taiwan has formed a Net-Zero Pathway Task Force within the Executive Yuan to create a roadmap. The Ministry of Economic Affairs has also established a group which includes representatives from the electronics industry to discuss possible measures to reduce greenhouse gases.

The BOFT gathers the latest information and transmits them to domestic enterprises, thus supporting Taiwan enterprises in their efforts at reducing carbon emissions that is in harmony with international export standards. The global trend to reduce carbon emissions is also a starting point for new business opportunities. More net zero emission information has been published on the Green Trade Information Network (https://www.greentrade.org.tw).
