To stay at the forefront of R&D and drive the economy forward, DoIT has selected key technology areas to receive priority support under the 5+2 innovative industries plan by Executive Yuan. Advanced technologies, such as 5G, AIoT and many other disruptive ones are expected to transform our life styles and industrial structures in the near future. Building on Taiwan's existing competitive strengths in ICT and semiconductor industry, DoIT is committed to developing strategically intelligent technologies, integrating software/hardware/services, and promoting international collaborations to accelerate Smart Technology industrial innovations and digital economy in Taiwan. In addition, Smart Technology would play a key role in 5+2 innovative industries plan, which is aligned with the Asia Silicon Valley Development Plan, AI Taiwan Action Plan, Taiwan Display Technology & Industrial Applications Action Plan, and Taiwan's 5G Action Plan.

In this era of climate change, green energy and green materials are an ultrahigh potential emerging industry. The 5+2 innovative industries plan focuses on the development of green energy technology and circular economy. Under the government's policy, DoIT leverages the strength of the electro-optical industry to develop emerging technologies, such as smart energy, new green material, and resource recycling. DoIT also fosters Taiwan's connections with global partners to occupy its share of the promising emerging market.

Smart Manufacturing Technology

As a major machine tool exporter, Taiwan's machine tool industry plays a significant role in the global market. In response to Industry 4.0 and digital transformation policies, Smart Machinery is included in the 5+2 innovative industries plan. With the advantages of existing machine tool technology, production, and automation, DoIT has not only developed intelligent technology for machine tools, but has also built a PaaS/SaaS platform for smart production. Based on Taiwan's superior vertical manufacturing abilities and its advanced machine tool industry, alliances can be formed into global partners to implement the industrial technology upgrade strategy with focus on the dual engines of manufacturing and services.

With long-term investment in the biotechnology industry, numerous new drugs and medical devices are constantly brought to market. Also, Taiwan's textile and food industries play an irreplaceable position in the global market. The advancement of data analysis heralds a new era for biotechnology and textile technologies, and thus DoIT will promote cross-industry and cross-border technology partnerships for the development of new drugs, innovative medical devices and textile technology, as to support the biomedicine and circular economy industries' vision endorsed by the 5+2 innovative industries plan.
